Update: Obama vs Obama 6/1 through 6/10
An interpretation of the numbers understands the 'race' for the presidency as a race between Obama and Obama. Mr. Romney is just the convenient 'holder' for opposing Obama.
The numbers: I counted Twitter messages that contained 'Obama,' 'barackobama,' and 'obama2012.' The messages captured that mentioned Romney were 'Romney' and 'mittromney.' The Twitter messages give an indication of attention -- who are people paying attention to in the campaign. The answer is in the figure.
For June 1, 2012 through June 10, 2012 messages mentioning Obama are three-fourths of the total of all of Obama references plus all Romney references. Obama is the focus of attention.
The messages mentioning Obama are at least as likely to be negative as positive. So, this is the campaign. Do you like Obama? Do you dislike Obama? That is what I found in Obama vs Obama for late April through most of May. It seems to still be true. There has been no diminution of the preponderance of messages mentioning Obama.
