Happy new year. It was the first of January with Iowa only two days away. What did this day bring?

For the also rans

Hunstman is still close to zero. Both Bachmann and Perry were given a mini-spurt. Bachmann was 6045 which was up from 4371. And Perry was 4674 which was up from 3243. The increases in Twitter messages does not change their also ran status, but it is something.

For the news makers

Gingrich continues on a downward path. By January 3 he may be among the 'also rans' .

Both Romney and Ron Paul saw small surges. Tweets about Romney were 24,776 which was up from 21,419. And Tweets mentioning Ron Paul were 23,012 which was up from 20,910 the day before.

But the big change is Santorum. Tweets mentioning Santorum jumped from 13,709 on December 31 to 23,441 on January 1. That puts him up with the 'big boys.' Apparently the news about a surge has produced a surge in Twitter messages.
