Orders made concerning the account of William Tirwhit, lately sheriff of
York, accounting here lately in the quindene of St Hilary [27 January] in
this term by Robert Davysoun, his attorney, concerning the office of the
aforesaid sheriff, namely, from Michaelmas in the fourteenth year of the
present king [29 September 1435] until Michaelmas then next following
Sum made of the aforesaid late sheriff by his said attorney, he owes £2104 7s. 9 1/2d. From which he seeks an allowance of 44d. paid by him to Christopher Boyntoun, sole justice of the lord king, for preserving peace in the North Riding in the said county of York, namely, for eleven days 4d. to be received per diem. Just as is contained in a certain schedule annexed to the petitions of the said late sheriff, the tenor of which schedule indeed follows in these words: there remain 44d. to be allowed for the wages of Christopher Boyntoun, the lord kings sole justice for peace in the North Riding in the county of York, namely at Northallerton, on Wednesday next before Christmas in the ninth year of king Henry VI [20 December 1430] 4d., at Bedale on Tuesday next after the feast of St Hilary in the same ninth year [17 January 1431] 4d., at Richmond on the eve of Palm Sunday in the tenth year of king Henry VI [12 April 1432] 4d., at Richmond on 10 May in the tenth year of king Henry VI [1432] 4d., at Thirsk on Monday next after the feast of St Peter ad vincula in the tenth year of king Henry VI [4 August 1432] 4d., at York Castle on Saturday on the day after the beheading of blessed John the Baptist in the eleventh year [30 August 1433, but see note in accompanying e-mail] 4d., on Saturday next before Michaelmas in the eleventh year [27 September 1432] 4d., at Northallerton on Monday next after the feast of St Lucy the virgin in the eleventh year [15 December 1432] 4d., at Richmond on Monday in the first week of Lent in the eleventh year [2 March 1433] 4d., at Bedale on Tuesday in the fourth week of Lent in the eleventh year [24 March 1433] 4d., at Richmond on Monday next after the Sunday after Easter in the eleventh year of king Henry VI [20 April 1433] 4d., at which payments [or sessions] the aforesaid Christopher was indeed personally present, as is evident in the Extracts about peace for the ninth, tenth and eleventh years of king Henry VI. And after the aforementioned was examined by the Barons and mature deliberation thereupon held among the same [Barons], it was determined that the aforesaid William Tyrwhit, lately sheriff, should have an allowance in his account for 44d. paid by him to the aforementioned Christopher Boyntoun, as was aforesaid, by reason of the aforementioned. Afterwards with the allowances made in the great roll for the fourteenth year of the present king by the eyre of York he still owes £105 14s 3s.
