The Castle Front Door

You walk through the gate -- leaving some money along the way -- and it opens up to a lawn and path that leads to the major buildings of the castle. You are looking at the castle from the other side -- vis a vis the air view.

The guards are atop the castle. The two men walking on the path give perspective to the size of the gate into the main castle buildings and to the size of the windows in the walls of the castle. They also give perspective to the size of the lawn; it is an afternoon stroll from the gate to the entrance. When the castle was built they anticipated that horses or carriages would be used to get from the gate to the castle buildings.

They did not permit picture taking inside the castle -- you have to pay to see it -- but it is quite grand. Much of the castle is essentially a museum; a memory of much grander days. You see armor on entering the castle. There is furniture from the past, pictures from the past, the large dining room is laid out with china and silver and several other sets of china decorate the room. And there are charters with kings seals on the wall of one passageway.

This picture tour must continue with outside pictures.
